sickEvery winter millions of Americans contract the “common cold.” This means suffering through uncomfortable symptoms and missing work. Those who suffer from the common cold are likely to experience three symptoms including nasal stuffiness, sneezing, and a runny nose, as well as resulting throat irritation. Fever is also common among infected infants, but not so much in adults. Once you have caught the common cold, symptoms usually begin within 1-5 days.

The first sign of a cold is a scratchy feeling in the throat, followed by sneezing and nasal discharge. By the third day, the nasal discharge becomes thicker and yellow or green in color. During this period a child may experience congested ear drums. In addition to the symptoms mentioned, the virus may also produce a headache, cough, postnasal drip, burning eyes, muscle aches, or a decreased appetite. Those dealing with a cold should drink large quantities of water and other fluids.

Most of us know how uncomfortable it can be to deal with a cold. For this reason it is always nice to send sufferers a homemade gift basket along with a nice card. Get well gifts are a cheerful reminder that you care about the sick person in your life.
